Rowe of the Rambam Medical Center in Haifa on Palm Beach as the recipient of the Emanuel G. Rosenblatt Award for Scientific Achievement. The Gala, co-chaired by Roy Apple, Lee Goldstein, Celia Jacobs and Deena Morgan, will also be honoring Peter Brown, President of the ICA USA for the past four years, and his wife Nancy. The Browns, who reside in Palm Beach, Florida, Alpine, New Jersey, and East Hampton, New York, are being recognized for their untiring commitment and generous support for cutting edge cancer research in Israel. It was a unanimous decision that Peter and Nancy Brown be our honorees this year, stated Roy Apple, Co-Chair of Gala 2006. They have both been an integral part of our Israel Cancer Association family since its inception and have consistently demonstrated their generosity and commitment to helping Israel find cures for cancer.
For the past seven years the Israel Cancer Association USA has recognized an outstanding cancer research scientist, to receive the Emanuel G. Rosenblatt Award for Scientific Achievement. This years recipient is Dr. Jacob M. Rowe, Chief of the Department of Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation at the Rambam Medical Center in Haifa.
Dr. Rowe is responsible for establishing a major Stem Cell Transplant Unit at Rambam Medical Center and revitalized the Hematology Department, significantly improving the level of care for patients with Hematologic diseases. Past recipients of this award included Nobel Prize winner Dr. Aaron Ciechanover from Technion in Israel and Dr. Judah Folkman, of Harvard University Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts.
The Israel Cancer Association is involved on all fronts in the fight against cancer, supporting research and services in over 30 hospitals and research institutions throughout Israel. Israel has the unlimited ability to conduct stem cell research, which most oncologists believe is the key to finding cures.
